Keeping in view the integrated development of the Leather Industry, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India have made on allocation of Rs. 290 Crore under the plan scheme, "Integrated Development of Leather Sector (IDLS) which has become operational with effect from 03.11.2005.
While disclosing this spokesman of the Industries and Commerce Department said that here today that all the existing units in tanneries, leather products, Leather footwear and footwear components sector undertaking viable and bankable programme on modernization technology up gradation on or after 03.11.05, can avail assistance under this scheme. The financial assistance would be in the form of grant to the extent of 30% of cost of plant and machinery for SSI and 20% of cost of plant and machinery for other units ( i.e. not- small Scale Units) subject to a ceiling of Rs. 50 lakh for both categories for technology up-gradation modernization and/or expansion. Investment grant would also be available to the Units investing their own resources.
The Scheme will be implemented through CLRI Chennai for tannery and through FDDI, Noida for other Leather goods, garments, saddlery, leather footwear and footwear Component.
The Spokesman further said that this Scheme would be immense help to the Leather Industry of Punjab. He said that details of the Scheme has been sent to all General managers, District Industries centres in the State and the desirous Industrial Units may contact general Manager, District Industries Centre of the District concerned or general Manager, SIDBI.
