Punjab has record 76 per cent polling

A whopping 76 per cent of the electorate cast their ballots yesterday in a record election in the state. The state has never witnessed such high polling and it seems that people have voted with a vengeance, sending alarm bells across the political spectrum in the state, particularly in the ruling Congress party. The voting pattern released by the Election Commission of India revealed that out of a total of 1.65 crore voters, 1.25 crore voters cast their ballots.
District wise Gurdaspur saw 77 per cent polling, while Amritsar had only 68 per cent. Tarn Taran had 71 per cent voting, while Jalandhar had 74 per cent. Nawanshahr had 78, while Kapurthala had 77, and Hoshiarpur had....READ ENTIRE STORY...

you haven't elaborated on whether the 76 % polling will benefit or harm the akali dal.
Does it mean that rural voters have voted more or is it the urban voters?

I think it is the ruling Congress which organised large scale voting in the last minute. Don't forget the ruling party always has the benefit of mis(using) the state machinery for its benefit
