The Punjab Government has decided to provide 100 precent water supply and sewerage facilities in all the towns of the State and for this purpose a Municipal Development Fund had already been set up.
While presiding over a Programme Implementation Committee meeting held here today Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab said that the water supply projects for 124 town at a cost of Rs. 245.36 crore and sewerage projects of 45 towns costing to Rs. 303.77 crore have been approved by the sect oral Sub-Committee of Municipal Development Fund.
Giving more details regarding the on going development works in a meeting Ch. Jagjit Singh, Local Govt. Minister said that, so for works of water supply in 51 towns had been allotted. He said that tenders for water supply for 17 towns and tenders for sewerage schemes for 5 towns have also been approved and tenders for other towns were in the advanced stage.
The Minister further disclosed that the work of installing Tubewells has been allotted to Punjab water supply and sewerage board while other works would be executed by the various agencies. 25 such Tubewells had also been installed. Punjab infrastructure Development Board has so far released Rs. 300 lac for Tubewells and Rs. 763.58 lac for other works.
While reviewing the works of other departments in a meeting Mrs. Bhattal discussed at length the projects of Housing and Urban Development department. Mrs. Bhattal said that there was proposal to construct Ring road around Mohali and Ludhiana, which was going to be implemented soon.
Mr. Surinder Singla, Finance Minister Punjab assured in the meeting that funds for on going development works would be released immediately as per requirement.
Mr. Raghu Nath Sahai Puri, Housing and Urban Development Minister Punjab appreciated the role of implementation committee for including Sujanpur Town of district Gurdaspur for providing sewerage facilities and for sanctioning Rs. 1.50 crore for this purpose.
