In a joint press statement issued here today Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, PWD (B&R) Minister Partap Singh Bajwa, Finance Minister Surinder Singla, Food & Supplies Minister Avtar Henry, Revenue Minister Amarjit Singh Samra, Cooperation Minister Jasjit Singh Randhawa, Local Government Minister Ch.Jagjit Singh and Irrigation & Power Minister Lal Singh, Excise & Taxation Minister Sardool Singh, Transport Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Animal Husbandry Minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, Housing & Urban Minister Raghunath Sahay Puri and Minister of State for Forest Hans Raj Joshan today ridiculed former Member Parliament and AICC Working Committee Member Jagmeet Singh Brar for casting aspersions on the sanguine image of Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh for his alleged involvement in the land deal between the Punjab Government and the Reliance Industries Limited.
Launching a frontal attack on Mr.Brar, the Ministers accused him as an opportunist and a mouthpiece of the Shiromani Akali Dal because he was also toeing the same line on which the Akali MPs were raking up such issues that pushed Punjab backward to the 20 th century instead of taking it to 21st as envisioned by the Chief Minister. The Ministers said that it was not the first time that Mr.Brar had flouted the ethics of the party discipline that tantamount to sheer indiscipline and sowing the seeds of dissension within the party that was united like a rock to unanimously pursue the agenda of all over development and progress in the State whereas Mr.Brar was all alone and was resorting to petty politics to achieve his personal political agenda and serve the vested interest of Akalis. Such politically motivated statements at this crucial juncture could harm the winning prospects of the Congress party beyond anybody's imagination as the Assembly election in the State were round the corner despite the fact that Akalis were in bad shape due to their declining graph of popularity among the masses.
The Ministers said that the controversy being raked up by Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal over this issue was a political gimmick just to woo the voters but the intentions of Mr.Brar were more harmful and catastrophic for the state in general and congress party in particular. "It should be amply clear to everyone that Akalis are apprehensive of erosion of their sizeable vote bank of farmers for whom they claim themselves as their 'Messiahs' due to the unprecedented farmer-friendly initiatives taken by Capt. Singh and his Government in terms of safeguarding the rights of the State over river waters, hassle free and smooth procurement of nine crops and the grant of bonus of Rs.50 per quintal on wheat recently announced by Prime Minster Dr.Manmohan Singh", asserted the Ministers. They further said that the ambition of Capt. Singh was to promote the diversification of agriculture for the welfare of Punjabi farmer and to improving his lot who was in doll drums due to the marginal returns from the traditional farming of wheat paddy rotation and the venture of RIL was also a positive step in this direction. "RIL has planned to set up 52 rural hubs in the state over next 3 to 5 years at an investment of Rs.6000 crore to purchase the produce from the farmers to promote diversification besides it would also provide them with inputs such as quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides as well as hi-tech facilities such as drip irrigation and net/green houses etc. and six such hubs, including one at Mohali would be operational by December 2006", said the Ministers. The accusation made by Mr.Brar against Capt. Singh spoke volumes of his frustration and lust for capturing power in the State by hook or crook. "Being a member of CWC, it is absolutely unfair and shameful for leader like Mr.Brar vitiating the political atmosphere in the state congress party by indulging in mudslinging instead of emulating self discipline and high moral principles which are the ethos of congress culture and ideology" said the Ministers.
The Ministers justified the initiative of Capt. Singh and his Government for bringing RIL in Punjab to strengthen its agriculture base to ensure better remunerative returns to the farmers. The Ministers held Mr.Brar squarely responsible for instigating Akalis to launch malicious propaganda against the Congress party in the State. The Ministers demanded a stern action against Mr.Brar and urged the AICC President Smt. Sonia Gandhi to take disciplinary action against Mr.Jagmeet Singh Brar for his anti-party activities bent upon to tarnish the image of Congress party in the State.
