The Shiromani Akali Dal, today sent copies of notifications and other relevant documents along with affidavits relating to 34 Congress MLAs holding office of profit and reiterated its demand for disqualification of all of them under the article 191(1) of the Constitution of India for holding office of profit.
According to party's Secretary, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, the SAD had filed a complaint on March 26, 2006 with the Governor of Punjab against 34 Congress MLAs holding office of profit. Out of these 19 are working as Chairmen of various corporations and boards and 15 are either working as Chief Parliamentary and parliamentary Secretaries or held these posts in the past. The Governor of Punjab referred this mater to the Election Commission of India on April 10, 2006. The Election Commission in turn asked the SAD to submit affidavits and other related documents to establish the truth by May 29, 2006. Accordingly the party sent the reply under signatures of party's General Secretary Mr. Balwinder Singh Bhunder today.
The SAD alleged that as Chairmen and as Chief parliamentary Secretary or Parliamentary Secretary, all of them are using government cars, houses and telephones etc. and are drawing pays and allowances due to them. So party demanded that all of them should be disqualified as members of Punjab Legislative Assembly.
